I'm trying to decide between the Victron 12V 15A and 25A mains chargers.
My intention is to install the charger and consumer unit under the bonnet with a Victron 12-12-30 DC-DC charger and have the charger easily removable if I need to use it on another battery. I currently use a piddly 12V 6A charger that does a reasonable but slow job when used to top up the normal starter battery.
There seems to be about £50 difference between the Victron 12/15 and the 12/25 - so the hamster maths in my head is that the pricing works like this:
12/15 about £140 = £9.33 an amp and would deliver 150Ah max in 10 hours.
12/25 about £205 = £8.20 an amp and would deliver 250Ah max in 10 hours - or 150Ah ish in 6 hours
In round numbers the 12/25 could potentially charge nearly twice as fast as the 12/15 and potentially keep step pace with the 12/12-30 DC-DC charger to top up the leisure battery.
Or am I deluding myself and the real world performance of the two chargers is likely to be very similar, in which case the 12/25 is not worth the premium over the 12/15.
I have an SB230AH from Roamer Batteries due to be delivered here on Wednesday next week (Chris rang whilst I was typing Roamer Batteries so that's an excellent omen!) and will be ordering one or other Victron charger on Monday.
Thanks all and have a lovely weekend
