Hello, we have just purchased a VW transporter CV convertion. We have been caravanners for a number of years so know quite a lot about camping. However, don't know a lot about campervans. So will be using this site as our bible.
My first question is......do we need levelling ramps? We have them, but they take up room which could be used for something else.
Thanks T

Thanks, but I know we use if required. I suppose my question is more, is it worth it?
Hi and welcome to the Forum where you'll find lovely peeps only too willing to help and advise. In answer to your question, it depends if you like a full cup or mug of tea or coffee and can put up with cooking pots and pans on the slant and possibly dangerous as a result. Personally, when caravanning I always spent great efforts to ensure the van was level, but it's a personal and family thing especially as you may need a step for access as well although there are now folding ones available at a moderate price.

At the risk of telling an experienced caravanner what she already knows ... I can only think of two reasons for using levelling boards:
1 - level table, bed, etc.
2 - absorption fridge (3-way) which I understand need to be close to level. There are quite a number of posts on different forums that discuss this. You could start here [1]. There is no such restriction with compressor fridges.

We have carried levelling boards for four years and never used them. We have a compressor fridge and have always been able to position the van to be near enough level for comfort and any slope such that the head of the bed was higher than the foot.

I have a feeling that I may not have answered the question that you are really asking. If so, please try again.

Best wishes, Richard.

Oops! I was so keen to reply that I forgot my manners. Welcome. I must admit that it feels a bit strange to welcome someone because I have not been a member for very long.

We have Thule too because they came in a nice bag. R.

Hi Teresa...nice to see another lady...I'm doing the same as you...caravan to camper, but still looking at options for mine. I remember I was manic about getting the caravan level so I'll probably be the same with the camper.

I'd like to see pics of your van...or am I being cheeky?

We take a small set of Fianma ramps but have only used once so far. I expect we may use more in the summer when we switch to camping on grass rather than hard standing.

What a great name for a van, welcome along.
PS I have some leveling ramps but never use them though have on the caravan before now

Hi Victoria
Welcome to the forum and T6 camper life. One other method of getting the van level not yet mentioned is to fit air ride suspension. For just c£4k you can then level the van via the suspension without the need for those expensive wheel chocks (c£30) that take up so much room!!!
C'mon guys..... you knew I'd respond to this thread at some point. ;);):):)

Still want to see you driving along with three wheels on the deck and one waggling in the air, true low rider style.
