Heater blowing hot-air only

Did you manage to get the plastic clip from Vw or is it part of the air distribution housing as mine is broken too, must be a common fault

Ok so got the new arm from @Tony P which is spot on, a lot more substantial and a perfect fit. This is where I need some help.....
The motor without the arm in just keeps spinning when hot is selected... when the arm is in place the motor will not move position regardless of where the selector is ‍¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No matter what setting I chose. I always have heat coming from the dash vents. Has anyone else had this problem? It’s really annoying and very uncomfortable.

@Leighjcj how did you get on in the end?

Mine (Highline) is cycling between vent outlets and largely remaining at the highest temperature.

Hi @Ads_Essex, still not 100% but partially due to my laziness!!

The short version is I replaced the stepper motor which opens/closes the hot/cold flap, also replacing the plastic control arm with the one Tony P supplied.

It then needed plugging in to reset the HVAC controls as the new motor needed to be calibrated to factory settings. A local specialist helped me out here as it wasn't playing ball at first.

The hot/cold selection was then sorted but the cycling of vent positions continued. After a little more troubleshooting and signal testing of various wiring (again by the local VW specialist) We're 99% sure this is a fault in the heater control panel but I just haven't picked up a replacement yet.

ah I see. Ok mate that’s good to learn - I’m considering a heated seat upgrade in future so I’ll be replacing my panel. It’ll be interesting to see if that resolves the problem itself

Did you move flaps to hottest position manually before refitting and turning heater control to the hottest setting so the motor was in the correct position?

I’ve not had anything apart yet @Tony P - I noticed the cycling a while ago and then again at the weekend, along with the temperature issue.

I guess the first port of call is to check whether the control flap is functioning?

Edit: turns out two of the three connectors in the back of the HVAC control unit were loose.. once plugged and locked back in, the air can be directed as and where it should be and all faults disappear! I'm yet to run the engine and check the temperature issue.

Yep we did all that  then with quite a bit of messing on VAG Com but got hot and cold sorted. Just the cycling of vents to sort
