Now I've thought about it, I remember that the panel with the light switch is actually fixed to the van with a screw inside the light switch recess, meaning you have to get the light switch out before you can take the screw out and the panel off. So, I must have got to the light switch clips with the panel only loosened. Make sense?Small side panel is off & there is no way in from there thanks for your input though.

I think you'll struggle if the mech is broken. I think you'll have to break it off and replace the bezzel and switch.
There are 3 locking points from memory, spaced equally around the edge. The switch sits in a round moulding which has one screw at 6O'clock holding it onto the dash .
