Gas bottle - hand tight or spanner?

Hi all, quick question. I recently went for my first trip out in the van and didn't have a spanner to tighten the gas bottle on. I was going to a campsite for the first trip so just asked the next-door neighbour when we arrived if they had one, and they said they just hand tighten theirs on their van.

Thought I'd ask the question to the forum...whats the general consensus?

I would work on the basis that if it has a hexagonal coupling like yours it fits a spanner.
If it has a round knurled knob it fits the palm of the hand.
Don’t over-tighten, most importantly as with any seal make sure it is clean before coupling.

You do have to consider who is operating the hand!
I remember a few years ago hearing hammering from outside a neighbouring pub.
I found the landlord (pissed as a fart) with a pipe wrench and a hammer trying to remove the regulator from a bank of cylinders.....smashing the crap out of it the wrong way.
Scary stuff.
