VW Transporter Electric

I know there is already a full electric version out, but lets face it, its useless, unless you're a delivery driver delivering small packets of feathers over the road twice a day. But without a crystal ball, when do you believe I'll be able to place an order on a T6/7/7.1 Kombi that will do 400 miles and carry a ton ( vat qualifying)? My van is now 4 1/2 years old and I figure maybe another 18 months before I'll get itchy feet. I know there is currently a massive payoff between load and range, so are we waiting for battery technology to bridge this gap? or are we still years away from my requirements?

Answers on a postcard.

I'm serious, I think it'll take 2 full model cycles before the technology is there that will give a 5m van a dependable 400 mile range in addition to a 1 ton payload at a price comparable to today's Transporter

We're talking VW, so there will be a T7 that they claim will do all of those things in the next couple of years. When you've driven 100 miles but are stuck on the side of a motorway and the display says "Range: 0 miles" you'll know for certain that they lied.

Hi...If you’ve been watching that Tv show that’s converted to electric...110 defender and that cool Enfield bike ...Electric vans may be nearer than you think....but when you watch all the engine bits come out and the weight trade off with batteries ..it’s impressive..and it’s got power and range....What’s not to like :)

Electric vans are here now, but the batteries that would fit into a Transporter size vehicle and give a 400 mile range while leaving room for a payload of 1 ton are not. And when they are they'll likely start at twice the price of a Kombi in real terms. A Crafter size vehicle fulfilling those requirements will be nearer.

When it can carry a ton, or somewhere near, and genuinely go 400 miles on a charge, I'll be in the queue to get one if the price stacks up, but I wouldn't buy one purely on the basis that the dealer says it has a 400 mile range, I'd need to know that it's realistic. I'd probably settle for a genuine 300.
Many manufacturers of electric vehicles already make claims about range that have proven to be fiction.

So, like me you’re all thinking my/our next van will be another diesel? I really don’t have a problem with that, but, I don’t want to be in a position 5 , 6 or 7 years from now where I have a vehicle I can’t sell, or more correctly worth very little, when I still had to shell out an awful lot of cash for a ”premium” product.

Hi there morning gang the good lady was on HotUKDeals earlier this morning and said a l.w.b. ABT.e was nearly £55.000 is this correct or will I need to put her dosage of medication up. Surely not. Has anyone got one ? Is it true. ?

Oh dear . Think I,LL keep what I have and save myself some money at the same time . Thanks for that mate.

Probably going to change my good ladies maybe next year for a petrol version kombi as she isn't doing much miles now.

That Anderson charging point is so "period". The Cotswold Oak front mounted on those Cambridge Yellow bricks, yes it looks like it's been there forever! :slow rofl:

I’ve driven one. They are shocking. I’m sure he will regret it. Can’t even go on about how fast it accelerates like most EV drivers

When Cambridge city centre is "EV only or pay an extortionate charge" in the not too distant future he'll be able to drive to his offices, which are in the city centre. According to his website, his company are specialising in EV charging points, there will be plenty of customers in Cambridge who'll pay the extra to have the work done by somebody with the word "artisan" on his T shirt.

Let’s hope ‘when’ finally happens, which won’t be for a while, there are actually a viable electric option out there- These certainly are not (I won’t be getting one….ever).
Drive one and you will understand, they are utter crap, using very old technology developed by ABT for the German post office years ago.
