Front edge of sliding door battered by chips!

Noticed this whilst washing the van the other day. It's a 21 plate and I've had it since new so I know it's not been in contact with anything. I can only think it's sticking out into the wind enough to get battered by stones from the front wheels.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I presume VW won't be interested and I'll just have to touch it up, but wondered if its a common issue and might be worth protecting this area more?

Wide front tyres ?

255 at the moment, and no extreme offset so they don't stick out alot, probably no more than standard.

It's only on the passenger side too, which I guess is where most of the crap on the road would be, but there's literally nothing in the drivers side panel edge

That looks too bad to be just the odd stone, I've got no mudflaps on my van and there's nothing on my doors.

If the passenger is letting the seat belt fly backand the clip stop is low then the clip could be swinging out and hitting the edge of the door. Was happening om my transit (sorry) when I had one.
