Fan runs after even the shortest journey

I just drove 1.5 miles and after I parked, and fan for the engine (2019 T6.1) kept running for several minutes. I've noticed this several times. Does this indicate a fault?

I also often smell burning rubber but have never been able to pinpoint that it's actually coming from the van.

In contrast, I'm regularly driving 100-200 miles at a time with no faults or problems...

The van is trying to do a regen....

The burning smell is the DPF and the fan is running to keep the underside of the van from getting too hot.

Take it for a run up the motorway an junction or 2.

Not necessarily, normally this tells you that you did not complete regeneration and it then starts again on your next journey after the full working temperature has been reached.

It will calm down as you put miles on the van....

Could it be something else? I've done about 1.5hrs on the motorway twice each day for the last two weeks. Van has 11k miles on the clock.

You could buy a Carista module and see the Ash level for yourself?

This is a great idea, I bought one this month and it brings peace of mind that the regens are working- 2 screen shots, the first was earlier in the week the second yesterday after it felt like the van was doing a regen. I’m going to keep monitoring how much the soot levels increase each week. Looks like 30grms is the level when it starts

possibly . . .

but as the guys mentioned above.

it could just be timing . . . the fan over-run and burning smell is 99% indicative that you have shut the engine off mid ReGen.

look out for other factors. . . like increased idle speed while stationary. its normally around 800rmp but will increase to 950/1000rpm

The DPF burning smell will eventually die off around about 4-8k miles on the clock . . . which is when the new engine will start to feel much less tight and start to run much more smooth.

as above, Carister will help you read fault code and read PIDs like the ash/soot etc.

Feel your pain @dubLU 4 years in a T5.1 and I had the DPF light (?) on twice, quick razz up the motorway a junction or so and it was sorted. I can do 4 hours on the motorway in my T6, pull up on the drive and it’ll regen on the path!

That has got to be the thing that irritates me most about regens….belt down the motorway and it kicks in when you park up for the night!!!

Thank god its normal, I was just about to freak out here. So I just let it do its thing parked up in the drive or I should drive it a bit more to help it along? how often is this likely to happen currently around 50 k on the clock.

It's not good to do lots of short trips....

So either carry on for the drive, or sit there ticking over.....

Your will know it's doing a regen as the tickover revs will still up at 950rpm instead of 750rpm.

My fan has run on a few times the last cpl of days. But I have not had the DPf regen light come up on the dashboard at all. Do these vans fans run on fir other reasons as the;engine temp was on 80 degrees as I only live 2miles from work. Concerned now as if it's a regen why ain't the light coming on the dashboard?

The light doesn't come on when it is regenerating - it comes on when regeneration has failed numerous times and there is an error.
I have sat there for 15 minutes before a regeneration finishes ( they always seem to start just before you reach home somehow )
