Failure to start

Hello guys.
I'm at my wits end..
I have been getting an intermittent fault when trying to start my T5.
Over the last couple of months whenever I put my key in the ignition barrel and try to get it going the engine turns over for a second or two then dies.
I have change the battery and the ignition switch, but still the fault persists.
This morning it happened again.
Only after it failed I sat in the driver's seat..
Locked the van then unlocked it and put the key back in and it started.
Now I'm not sure if it's related to the central locking or the immobiliser.
Need help as I can't rely on my van when we are away.
Thanks for reading.
Hopefully I can get to the bottom of this ASAP

Have you scanned for codes yet?

On my past VAG cars, they’d start and run for about a second before shutting down if it hadn’t read the immobiliser chip. Do you get any error lights (immobiliser icon) on the dash?

No mate.
Nothing.
Like I mentioned..
With the instrument cluster lights not working i removed the key..press lock/ unlock.
Reinsert the key.
Back to normal
Weird?
