Hi guys ,becarefull buying of facebook Market place I was after buying a fiamma f45s £300 new said I would collect with cash but only getting one word reply as still available until I said would pay more with postage and they got all interested then

Loads of it at the moment unfortunately! I was looking at a Watt Bike Atom on there, was cheap to be fair which rung alarm bells. He told me he would prefer to post it for free via DPD than me go and collect it as he is bed bound due to a bad injury months ago, then in the next conversation said he would get a picture of it with his name on a bit of paper when he ‘gets back from the gym’. Nothing stacked up at all! Also the postcode he gave me if I wanted to collect was different to where it was advertised at, told me he’s recently moved. All very fishy!

Gum tree is riddled with them. I was selling a high spec road bike and they asked how much for postage. I replied £3000. They still said they were interested and asked how big the bike was...I replied 15 hands and two chocolate buttons. Still wanted the bike

My facebook was hacked and all contact details changed so I cannot get to my account. E mailed and messaged facebook loads, not had a single response. Worried they will use my account to get up to no good on Marketplace.

I’d change all my passwords on banks, emails etc just to be safe

There's a scammer by the name of Carl Fraser, he's in every car group on FB selling parts he doesn't have.

All,

Please beware of a seller called Dominic Howells. His listings, photos etc really do appear genuine - i.e. from someone who genuinely has and knows their Transporter stuff.

I'm after a Captains seat - price of course seemed too low - but he answered questions only someone with such a seat would know. Fact he replied instantly and anything I wanted - e.g. discount, could he arrange a courier - all agreed to straight away just started the doubts.

I was tempted, but that doubt was there. Sensible head did kick in - thank goodness. He's posted loads of adds to Transporter Facebook groups - sadly some have been scammed looking at the comments.

My advice - if you can't physically go and see it, it's just not worth the risk. Even if you are offered the chance to view - never pay a deposit - you can simply be given a false address.

One of his adverts:

No doubt sadly one of many, but if my post saves just one person on here being scammed then that's a bonus,

Everyone of his listings is at least half the price it should be, it seems there are too many trusting people in this world and some are happy to exploit that and make it a full time job conning others out of money

There’s one scam that I don’t understand. Every now & then, FB marketplace gets flooded with ads for a certain item. The ads have all the same pictures, but are from different sellers around the country. The item is usually a high value item at a ridiculously low price. E.g. last week it was a Dewalt 10” site table saw, brand new £80. These retail at £600+. I contacted various sellers & not one responded. It has to be a scam, but I’m buggered if I can work out what the scam is.

It's possible that they check out everyone who responds and decide whether or not they're are likely to fall for the risky payment part or cause a problem.

Just one more reason to delete faceplant and any other means of social media.
Occasionally I wonder if I’m missing out by not having FB or any other social media. This forum is, online at least, as social as it gets for me. I even refuse to use Amazon. I prefer real people and smaller decent companies as much as I can.

So then I convince myself I’m missing nothing.

Then I wonder why every man and his dog uses these platforms… and it all starts again.

I have to go and have a nice beer to stop the thought process.

Me too all these social influencers what a crock of sh*t, people need to think for themselves a bit more and not jump on the latest trend or what not.
Well that’s my social media rant over I’m off to hug a tree

Many small decent companies with real people sell their goods through Amazon. Amazon is a portal which provides both parties with protection.

Convenience mainly, pretty much anything you could want delivered to your doorstep usually the next day.
Plus being able to search for the best price in 10 seconds.
