Exploria Kombi Beds

Hoping mine arrives this coming week. As I already have additional 12V feed into the back, I intend to piggy back off this to supply the lighting that I will rig up under the bed.

Got a call from Exploria today. Was really excited, thinking it'd be on it's way - it's not.
Going to be at least another two weeks! Apparently they have got to redesign the slider locking mech as there are not happy with it.
Still, at least it means that (1) they aren't happy with robustness of a component so are fixing it for the better, and even more importantly (2) it gives me longer to save up the balance of the money!

Maybe not good for those of us who have just bought one. Did they say what they didn't like about it.

Umm worth finding out , I can't really see an issue with it ? But just purchasing one myself would be interesting to know, maybe they are now putting that edging seal on yours that I emailed them about after I had fitted some too mine.

How much are they? Think this is the best one for a full widthbed/storage space and what's it like to spend the night on?

Around the £850 mark. Which reminds me, I must phone them this week to find out how long it is going to be until they ship mine. Since it has been a fortnight since they reported they were doing something with the locking mechanism. Not heard a Dicky bird since.

I ordered mine the day after you ordered yours... not heard anything either. Intrigued to know what they've changed though!

Thanks daveyB looks like it's a deluxe air bed this year then until Santa is due:confused:

I phoned Exploria this afternoon on my way home (hands free all legal) got a rather nonchalant response of "could be a further two weeks yet waiting on a supplier". I asked what was the issue with the previous mechanism as a number of people on a large T6 dedicated forum were rather concerned that they have a product that may not be as good. The answer "we are just swapping the lock from being horizontal to vertical" (or the other way round V to H - can't remember what she said as she appeared to just want to get off the phone).

Hmmm, keep on at 'em mate..was just about to order one myself but this doesn't instill much confidence...I'll be interested to know their reasons...

Anybody know what leg size is required to clear the motor pods for ekectric side doors.
Anybody with electric side doors fitted one of these beds.

Hiya - cant work it out from the pictures - if we have the Kombi seats out of the van to make more space for camping, how is the slide-out part of the bed supported? There only seem to be 4 legs with go into the back and middle lashing-eyes - thanks!

Hi Folks,

We have had a lot of enquiries regarding what specific changes we've made to the Exploria Kombi Bed and there seems to be some confusion of what we are doing (or have done) to the hugely popular Exploria Kombi Bed.

First of all, there was nothing wrong with the Kombi Bed I, but like many products, it's just got better!

Changes that have been made:

We had a lot of customers asking if the rear mattress was removable, and on the Kombi Bed I it wasn't, so on the Kombi Bed II we made it removable. This allows customers to remove the mattress if they want to load items on top or remove the mattress, so that they can lie on it outside if its a nice sunny day. The option of removing the mattress meant that we had to change the ply board on top, so we have changed this to the best quality treated European ply available. This Ply has a highly durable anti-slip hex pattern on top and a smooth underside. The Ply is finished in a nice mid-grey to match the panels and dash of the transporters. The edges are also now coated.

The sliding mechanism on the Kombi Bed I wasn't as smooth as it could be, so on the Kombi Bed II we have added an industrial grade sliding rail system. This rail system allows super easy extension & retraction of the bed, as well as fully supporting the slide out section of the bed. The locking system of the bed needed to be changed with these improvements, so we have also introduced a new, horizontal locking plunger and nylon lined receiver, to lock the beds back for when travelling. These improvements to the sliding rails and the locking mechanism mean they should be smoother & quieter than ever and also easier to operate.

We changed the colour of the bed frames so that we could easily identify which version they were. The Kombi Bed I was a mid-grey colour, which we changed to a slightly textured black finish on the Kombi Bed II, which is more in-keeping with the Transporter trim and seating components and it is also tougher than the original finish.

We have had a few minor tweaks on the new bed system.....we are currently dispatching beds on a daily basis and working through the backorders. We do have lead times currently at 3 - 4 weeks, because we have more beds on order than ever before, and we are also exceptionally busy building vans as it is our peak season! The lead times will hopefully reduce in time, but if you do want one, the best thing is to order one sooner rather than later. We do apologise for any delays and we always do our best to keep everyone up to date with current lead times, but sometimes it is out of our control when we are in the hands of suppliers and awaiting specialist components.

Thanks for your understanding & continued support
