Eurotunnel - lower car deck

We returned from France on Friday a full 24 hours earlier than planned, and took a gamble on the tunnel. On arrival at 11pm, the only high area was at 6am crossing. Lady at booth said are you below 1.85 m - of course we are I say. So allowed onto the 11:50pm crossing (for 90 euro).

Waiting in the parking area, they came up and (very nicely) said you have the wrong boarding card, and need to swap for a high one. Bum. Went inside and they said - no crossing available till 6am. But, I cried, we are below 1.85 just (my nephew has a standard kombi, stood beside me, explaining how mine is lowered etc). She got a big measuring pole out and said, one way to sort this!

Outside the van just about went under it at the edge, and she didnt notice the raise in the middle of the roof. Much debate and then allowed us through. We held our breath as we went under the pole, and it just cleared it, and then again as we drove on the lower deck of the train. But it fitted.

So, a slightly lowered van will fit (I'm on Bilstein's but at their higher setting). Probably had 6" to spare I reckon! Did have slightly brown trousers driving down, as it feels soooo low roofed! and it is much narrower than the high area, as I found when a wing mirror bounced off the loos....

Nice to know thanks as we are off to France in July. We have B14's at their lowest so hopefully should have a larger gap up top lol

I've never had the luxury of that choice, because we always go in the Motorhome and we can only travel in cattle class, but boy is that sight making me crave Europe! (no not the compromising position the young lady is about to participate in) the sight of the inside of the train. That's the best part knowing you're on your way on holiday! Maybe not in your case because you're on your way home.
Anyway, what colour is the Swiss Vignette this year?
