Engine Temp Dial

Hi, I have just fitted an Alpine Halo and have been playing with the setting etc and getting to know all the functions;

On the car info screen it give an engine temp. whilst driving this fluctuated between 80 (just after we stopped for a bit) to 106, however the temp on the instrument dash stayed a consistent 90 degrees.

Are the both reading the same thing or is one engine and one coolant?

The engine temp will naturally wander around a bit but as I understand it on VAG engines the dial will show 90 so long as the actual temp is within an acceptable range, I saw a table of the parameters once. Presumably this is done so it doesn't worry the driver unnecessarily. Once it moves outside of that range it will then move.

Coolant Temperature Readout

Today, I noticed that the coolant temperature gauges were out of sync! The analogue one didn't move off zero for several minutes and the digital one appeared to lag behind the analogue gauge.....so when the analogue gauge eventually got up to 90 degrees, the digital gauge was only reading 60...
