DSG Gearbox codes

Had my DSG Gearbox to a specialist and the advice is to get a secondhand one rather than fixing part of the problem and trying it back in the van. My old box code is NEX the only ones with this code seem to be abroad going off a google search. So My question is can I fit different code box, looked at loads they all look the same a and been VAG I know some will fit but do the codes need to match. The gearbox specialist has said it may need reprograming they can do that when its fitted.

I had a new gearbox/mecatronic/clutch fitted and my code was PSP, it was done at main dealer under warranty and they said it had to be the same ?
No idea what it means or what the difference is but that’s what they said at the time

form what I know witch is not a lot there should be a few that will fit it should just need the coding changing on the ecu to tell it that its got a different box fitted as long as its a DQ500. dealers will tell you what earns them the most if your just changing the mecatronic unit and not the hole box I would think yes it would need to match tho

bit of an update just incase anyone is struggling MXZ & NYB are the same box but will need a flash coding change
