DRLs: Replacing OEM P21W bulbs with LEDs

Here are some before and after pics - first pic is original OEM P21W bulb and second pic with an LED P21W equivalent

These ones seems to do the trick:

Canbus 382 (P21W) 27* 5050 White SMD LED Bulbs

No Canbus bulb failure warnings

White and (very) bright - just 4 weeks in so can't comment on longevity just yet...

Put some LEDs in today. They could almost be too bright!

Not a phrase normally associated either the H4 Unit.

Just pointing out that replacing ordinary bulbs with HID's is not legal, so there may be an issue if you are involved in an accident

Yup, LEDs still working as they should. Bright and white!

Nope. LED and Xenon are both HID lamps so both are illegal

LED (light emitting diode) is a solid state semiconductor and most definitely not a HID (high intensity discharge) type of electrical gas-discharge lamp.

And why would they be illegal?

I use these they are great, it's only headlights that have to have approval & meet MOT needs. These are 21W not 55w

OK, so LED is not an HID light, but I am guessing you will find they are treated the same by the DfT, police etc. The relevant document was produced by the DfT in 2010 before LEDs became common for vehicle lighting.
