Don’t buy a shuttle they say………

Evening All,

just thought I would do a mini thread on the build so far. After much research at the beginning and the useful knowledge on the site we decided to go for a 2018 shuttle as it had all the spec and was in budget.

ours is our family daily that will also double as weekend warrior camping and the odd longer trip, first up was to select the pop top supplier. Rang a lot, very mixed information and quality of service. In the end we went with Skyline as they are relatively local, we happy to take on the Shuttle and keep the a/c in the rear as well as do a few other mods whilst in there. We went for the Aurora with Z bed option and scenic canvas.

From start to finish Skyline have been amazing, quick and bang on to their price and timescale. The results we are extremely pleased with and really transform the van (as well as the extra practicalities of electrics etc).



next up was our bed for the adults ( kids sleep up top) so after looking at a lot of options and reviews ( and bank balance) we went for a Flatout Campers twin fold down option as it gave us the best use of the load bay when folded up and easily removable top section for daily duties (or leave half in for sofa/single bed). Craig was brilliant and even made some modifications to get the fit right for where the rear a/c unit is still located. To be able to keep our 6 seats and have the bed down will be handy. Not tested for comfort yet but will soon……


Kitchen unit we are going removable and ordered a Vangear maxi fridge although with the current issues around the gas burner and not overly stellar service it might be going back for a different setup we shall see.

anyway if anyone is thinking about going for a shuttle as a base vehicle and is worried, don’t be, there is plenty of companies out there willing to do it ty of good options For a versatile lifestyle van.

That is a really interesting solution. What are those long boxed in sections on the floor, I don't remember seeing those before? What is your plan with the removable kitchen? Will you put it in an awning to use it or just store it outside before folding the bed?

Looks like those sections are the side bolsters as seen when the bed is folded down.
The bed looks well comfy.

Exactly as Howzat said they are the infill section and are really comfy.
we went for a smallish awning from Go Outdoor and found it perfect for our cook/living room/storage needs. Longer trips maybe a larger multi section would be better.
we used the kitchen just in the awning

Hi Jim, is that a custom hinged bed support? exactly what im looking for, but for SWB, if its a retail product, would you have the supplier? cheers, lovely van btw

The bed is from Flatout Camper beds in Huddersfield. Craig there is a top guy and it comes as a complete kit.
They do a whole range of widths and mounting options for lwb and SWB vans
