Dometic awning bracket issue

Hi. I have a T6 with Dometic cassette awning and two of the screw heads holding it on have sheared off, leaving the self tapping screws in one part of the bracket. I think I can take the awning cassette off, but the bottom half of the bracket looks to have been riveted at some point meaning I can't take the bracket apart to repair/replace. I'm not sure if I should take this somewhere to get the top bracket riveted or to a Campervan specialist to replace the whole bracket system. Thoughts and ideas (especially near Watford if poss).IMG_6034.JPGIMG_6032.JPG

Hi Steve O.

I have the same issue with my Dometic PW1100 on a T6 having 4 of the Phillips screws snap off the heads.

My PW1100 was fitted by Camperking in Feb 2020.

I have removed the Awning until I can find a solution, before it may fall off!

My T6 van has only done 2,000 or so miles and the PW1100 very rarely used.

Did you find a reason and a solution?

Regards

No rivets on mine, all self tapping screws which if decent ones would be too hard for HSS drill bits but I can get them out.

Before I replace the broken screws I want to know why 4 of them broke.

No problem, thanks for the response.

it may be the screws are rubbish but whatever the reason its very odd.

Hi Tomi

no obvious reason other than the movement of the van and bracket puts pressure on the screw heads and they’re low quality.

I needed a fast repair so went for a riveting option. Not ideal from a removal point of view but the rivets have held well.

i took it to a local body shop repair place who drilled the old threads out and riveted them all on about 20 minutes.

hope this helps.

Hi Steve O

Thanks for your reply.

The self tapping screws in mine do seem a bit soft and all 4 broke close to the head.

I will see if anyone else on the forum has had the same problem. I can’t believe we are the only two!

Maybe replacing the screws with decent quality ones is the simple solution.

Merry Christmas
