Just come back to find this and no sign of owner...owner then appears looks shocked as he apparently parked it in the space over and opposite side of the road...he seems to think the dog inside the car pushed the electronic handbrake...and I'm guessing turned the steering wheel too.

Does anyone know if I can specify a new door skin as don't want any filler used ?

I'm guessing that he won't want to involve his insurers either . Negligence on his part.

I thought you couldnt release the electric handbrake unless the ignition is on??? It's certainly the case in my car.

Basically he didnt put the handbrake on lol

You will do well to get a new door from the looks of it.

Just wondering as the door will have to be painted would that mean the whole side has to be painted to match??

Would be hand as there is a little car park dink and a light scratch thanks to someone's shopping bag...

Silver is notoriously difficult to get a match. Definitely be worth speaking to the repairer about.
Oh and; sorry to read about this, I'd have wrapped his car around his head. Dog triggered the electronic parking brake, what a pile o dog 5hit3. Have had four cars with electro-mechanical hand brakes, you can't release them when the ignition is off - it's called a safety feature.

It needs to be blended so I imagine more than door will be sprayed. The engineer will note any pre existing damage however if around area needing resprayed it might get included. Worth asking repairer when you go bodyshop.

If you need a free replacment Van then give me a shout ;)

I did suspect a little wiff of something so I called Mazda who confirmed it cannot be released without the ignition turned on...so yes looks like the muppet forgot to apply the handbrake

Not sure how he could not put it on, on my car the handbrake automatically comes on when you switch the engine off and can't be released without starting first.

That looks more like he reversed into you, car park looks quite level in the photos so shouldn't have rolled and hand brake wouldn't of released, have you checked for any cctv?

My car has electronic handbrake and I found it in a different parking space on more than one occasion before I had retrained myself to do it. Not sure why it suddenly becomes so hard to remember. I was lucky - never hit anything. Found it blocking my street once, having rolled off the drive. Another time it rolled off the work forecourt and parked itself in a narrow space between two neighbours cars - that many people I know couldn't have parked in! They should apply automatically when you lock the car.

Hope it gets sorted for you.

Ye, I've had a few Mazda hire cars with electronic handbrake and have come back to find that the car had rolled from its parking space (more than once).. conveniently the car park I tend to use slopes towards the building so a brick wall stopped it rolling away. I'd like to say I've learned my lesson regarding the use of electronic handbrakes, but I'm not sure I have.

Mine is/was a volvo rather than a Mazda. I've not done it again, but I do frequently walk back to my car to check whether it is on. With they would let you check it from the key fob. Volvo is getting sold to pay for the van conversion soon anyway, so problem solved!

Update:

Took it to Rackhams in Ipswich which is the VW Approved repair agent.

Spoke to the team who have confirmed it will require a complete new door, blended into the front wing and sliding door. ( I was hoping for a complete side respray as mentioned above Silver is a nightmare to match. )

They have estimated £2000 which is a lot lower then I thought it would be. What are people's thoughts on price just out of interest?

Friggin' scary!

I remember getting a new roof, bonnet, windshield, bumper, and front/side panels with a partial spray for £4800 which was on the Vivaro after a tree crushed it.

£2000 on a door and blend just seems crazy to me. But then again, I don't know all that much...
