I had a brand new 9.5 estate in 2000. Picked the wife and newborn son up in it from hospital straight from the dealer.

I found that the night panel used to make me feel sleepy, maybe that’s why it didn’t catch on?

I had to laugh! I am one of seven children and it was my late father’s boast that he took our mother and each newborn home in a brand new car! (I was in a Ford Cortina, my younger brother in an Austin Cambridge....you’re guessing the era!)

I had a 9-5 Aero in 2000 and remember the dash and it had very swish cupholders. Lovely smell of leather too. The engine was pretty brutal but the handling was rather squashy. I had gearbox problems so I got rid of it before the warranty ran out!

My Alfa 156 had a similar function, similar in that half the electrics didn’t work

But would you buy another Alfa?

Of course you would!

Fun fact, the Alfa 164 and Saab 9000 were effectively the same car.
