Dissappointing Heated Windscreen

Morning all

In my last car, I had heated windscreen. The performance of it was outstanding ... it could be minus 10 degrees and 5mm thick ice on screen and it would melt it very quickly. If I put it on when it was just steamy inside, it would clear it in seconds.

Now just started using heated screen in my T6 and its takes AGES to clear the screen even if it just mildy cold. Its take at least 3-4 (maybe 5 if really cold) minutes, which at 6am sitting on the drive is a real PITA and kind of negates the reason for having it.

Is that just how these work, or is mine faulty?

cheers

Yep same here couple of minutes to defrost ice minimum

Having never had a heated screen in a van before, I love mine.
Yes, it takes a few minutes, but while the boys are sitting in there Caddys, heaters flat out, mine has cleared long before.

What was the last vehicle the heated screen was in? Ford use a very high amperage heated screen that takes seconds. Vw use a lower amp one to gradually defrost as it sells alot in colder climates in Europe and won't want cracked screens.
A few minutes is the norm.

I've had Fords with them ( i think Ford held the patent on them ) and they were much better, although the elements in the glass were more visible- and you could here the engine load up to drive the alternator when you turned it on !

I think the heated windscreen is adequate ............ not brilliant, as in some cars i have had, but if it saves me from scraping, spraying swearing. Happy days.
A few minutes sat waiting for the heated windscreen to kick in, is so much better than looking at the smears left after using de-icer.

I had a tiny stone chip on my windscreen. Put on the heated screen and it's now a massive crack. Could be coincidence but the chip had been there for weeks and not got any bigger. Wondering if the rapid change in temperature had anything to do with it ?

Anyway, I'm now a member of the "Cracked Screen" club.:(

The lovely Mrs MD has a mini with a heated screen....it clears in seconds.....awesome! Mine on the other hand is about as powerful as my H4's......seems to take forever!!

My Volvo heated screen clears in seconds, but the elements cut off in a line about 2" away from the A pillar on each side which leaves you with a mahoosive blind area until the aircon clears the rest of the screen
