I've still got to phone around to a couple of other potential fitters tomorrow but has anybody got an idea of whether or not a quote from PF Jones for the above is competitive and / or reasonable. I used their on-line quotation tool for the following:
  1. Westfalia Detachable Tow-Bar
  2. 2018 T6 Highline without trailer preparation
  3. 13 Pin T6 specific wiring
  4. Vehicle Coding
  5. Fitted by PF Jones local mobile service
The quote came back at £623 (inc. VAT) but did not mention the foam bumper supports which I assume would be extra if required. Grateful for any views on both the quote and need for bumper supports - thanks in anticipation.

That's exactly what I paid them a year ago for the same.
Their prices seem in the right ball park compared to others.

Yeah price is spot fine. I paid a tiny bit less but I have tow bar prep

Paid £500 (vat inc) in February 2020 to Britannia Towbars Swansea for removal of old towbar and 7pin electrics from my 2018 T6 4m Kombi and fitting of Westfalia detachable towbar with 13pin electrics as well as a foam holder for the boot to put the neck in when detached . Happy with their work. They do main dealer work as well I believe. Britannia Towbars Don't know if I had towbar prep. Prices may be different in Wales.

I would say that towbar prep should make reasonable difference. The kit is more for non-prepped vehicle but also, the most labour intensive part of fitting the kit is the extra wires to the BCM.

They gave me a quote for £603 - I’ve got towbar prep too. Seems about average for the south east and some quotes I got were over £700. I can’t understand why the towbar prep doesn’t save much more as it I know from previous cars it’s wiring it into the main fuse box that’s a pain in the sense, with towbar prep surely you don’t need to to that (I assume)

if you have owbar prep then do it yourself.

westfalia detachable is under £200 and the trailer prep loom is under £100.

very easy job seeing as you have the prep.

Thanks for all the response - sounds like my quote is exactly where it should be. All I've got to do now is bite the bullet and decide whether to opt for the tow bar or go for what seem to be the more popular route of tailgate mount rack. Total cost of the former is about twice the latter but it would be worth it if it offers the better solution in the end. Both have their pros and cons and I keep dithering between them!

Was booked in at PF Jones today for westafalia detachable towbar, 13 pin loom, bumper bar and coding. The vehicle had no towbar prep beforehand. Total price of £557. Very pleased with the product and service.

Hi @JasonW .. Can I ask did they fit Oem VW/Westfalia wiring and did they use the foam bumper pads and what was the branch you used.. Many thanks

Yes @VanDamMan - oem wiring loom, not 100% sure about the foam pads as I didn't see before they refitted the bumper. They Probably did as they have a good quality set up. I used the ice house branch in stoke

Jason - Out of interest, how long did they take to do the job? I'm guessing that the £65 odd difference in costs between yours and my quote is accounted for by mine being a house call as I'm a long way from the PF Jones northern locations. If I do go ahead, I might have to ask them who they contract to fit it as the one local firm that I have spoken to so far didn't have a clue about coding etc. When I asked, they said that I should just switch off the parking sensor alerts when reversing with the towbar and rack on (and they were supposed to be the local specialists!).

Avoid anybody that doesn’t understand why it needs coding.

I paid about £475 for my detachable, looks like a good price.

It took them about 4 hours from drop off to it being finished. This was with no towbar prep to start with... the coding took about 30 minutes and I asked about the reversing sensors which they said will automatically disable when the 13pin socket is in use now its been coded.
