Carista tweaks

You can buy just a week access for £7.99 and do all the changes then. If you think you might use it quite often then a yearly sub might work out better.

I have a wifi obd2. Will this work out do you need the carista one?

J

From what I understand that should work but if you download the free Carista app you can try it on the diagnostic first before paying

Ok. Going to have a play later. Wifi obd2 reader was only about 6 quid from amazon. Will post back results.

Going to see if my local VW specialist can make the changes for me, if not I may just buy the Carista module and do it myself.

Bought from Amazon £31.99, will have a play next weekend if it arrives. Hope I don't screw up the van. Does it do the the kmph to mph on the MFD?

I changed mine to Australia but to be honest I haven't been out in the van since just before Christmas so I don't know if it worked. As for screwing it up with the Carista app you can't. It's just a simple on off toggle.

Hi, just tried the app with my Wifi obd2 reader which I bought some time ago for the Torque app and all seems to talk to each other on the free version, so will try the weekly access tomorrow:)

I plan to try it with a cheap Bluetooth one on my Passat first, will have to use one of the kids Hudl's as it won't work with my iPhone :-/

Assuming it all works I'll sneakily change the settings on the bus and see if the Mrs notices ;-)

Ok. First attempt failed

For android you can only use bluetooth obd2 reader. With ios you can use wifi reader. Just got to wait for the old ipad to charge now.........

I gave up. Bluetooth reader on order. Should be here tomorrow. More of a hardware issue than software. Old ipad is knackered and no usb charger..

Does anyone else get the feeling the Carista App as just rendered all other VAGCOM virtually useless?

Hi @Scruffy. As a novice it appears to me that for the non-technically minded the Carista seems to be much easier to use with less likelihood of things going wrong. The VCDS, however, seems to be a tool for those that are both technically minded and with a degree of proficiency to do things beyond just altering the settings many are seeking to change. Horses for courses perhaps?

Agreed @T6 Dave's Dad , Carista serves a purpose for a really good price which will fit most peoples needs but it only does basic functions
VCDS has hundreds of settings most of which may not be required by the average user but it has the ability to recode and replace entire modules, you can view live data with the engine running and can also run diagnostics etc etc

Oh that's good, all plugged in and working on the weeks access, changed the beeps when locking and unlocking, the teardrop wipe, the time to am/pm :):):):mexican wave:

Only bit that does not seem to work is the coming home light changes, still needs a flick on the high beam to switch it on even with auto lights:(
