Can anyone identify this?

Good evening. I have just bought a T6 Kombi and was wondering if anyone can identify the wiring that I’ve found under the passenger seat this evening whilst having a nosey. I assume it is some sort of leisure battery set up, but there is no obvious signs of any power sockets anywhere etc. The van is a standard kombi so just curious as to what this was for. Many thanks.

Thanks Pete. There's no tow bar fitted, or any obvious evidence that there was one previously fitted. Would be good to work out why this was installed. Total novice to all this, but though a DC to DC charger was needed for vans with stop/start. Would it be possible that other parts were removed along with the leisure battery before the van was sold?

The TEC3M box is a autoswitching relay that will switch when the van is charging its battery...typically used to feed towbar electrics, specifically to feed a fridge in a caravan.

i wonder if they were using it as some sort of rudimentary split charge for the leisure battery?

from the big red quickpower connector which would go to the live battery terminal, there are 2 wires, one goes to the TEC3M box via a fuse, the other goes where?

The box is a voltage sensing relay (VSR) for a second battery. It will have a 'live' +12v feed from the starter battery so make sure you have this disconnected at source before removing wires from this relay.
As you rightly say a vehicle with a smart alternator charges a second battery best with a B to B unit although VW don't bother in a California. They utilise the switching connection from the BCM to actuate a normal high current relay.
