Looking at a 2016 TSI.
Trying to determine if the engine is a EA888 gen 3 or 3b.

Is it possible to identify with these images?

Take a photo of the build label under the steering wheel, it sould have the engine code

Got these pictures from the dealer so I cant take new pictures unfortunantley. And the dealer is 300km away.

Could I find It out via the VIN?

That's a fascinating question... T6 petrol engines have designations CJKA (150kW) and CJKB (110kW).
E.g. site VW T5 T6 Evo2 Competition Intercooler Kit lists them being available almost 10 years.
So I'd guess more likely to be "only" Gen 2 ??? Wasn't first Gen3 engines introduced around 2012?
Also the Transporters haven't really been the platform for the latest developments.

EDIT: Not sure how reliable these are but fascinating reading:

EDIT2: CJKA and CJKB engines were onboard on MY12.

EDIT3: post on 23-Dec-2017 in 2.0 TSI 150 or 204...

I found this time line, but this dosnt really help me identifying what engine is in that multivan.
Either its gen 2 or gen 3b since its 2L.

Gen 2 is the one with the problematic timing chain tensioner and also some other issues if I'm not misstaken?

CJKB ? Cant really find any clear answers with that code either i'm afraid. Could CJKB be both gen 2 and 3b and could an engine designed in 2008 in a 2016 van? Thinking EURO6 emission regulations...
