How have you done it?
When I convert, we will have a pop top, but beyond that I’m not sure what layout is possible to allow the bike to be stored in the van whilst travelling?

Hopefully you have LWB. Get two blankets. I jam front wheel between driver and bench seats. Rear wheel is up against the bed, and then a bungee to the table rail. For second bike the front wheel is up on the bed/seat, rear wheel wedged against back of bench seat.

New van will have a bed on sliders with three panels, rather than rocknroll. This should give me a few more options.

Just put Mtb in the search function, there are loads of threads with good info on them

How many people do you need to sleep in the van? In a standard layout with a RnR bed you can get a MTB with the wheel off in a LWB van.

Do you really need the bike in the van? The tailgate bike rack is pretty good and very easy to put bikes on.

I have a spoiler, so don't think I can fit a bike rack?

two people sleeping in the Van, SWB.

The Van is not converted yet, we will go minimal install, want rear seats on rails, so I guess front wheel off and bike should fit easily.

You could always remove the spoiler?

I think your idea of a bed on rails would work. I've seen examples on this forum where people attach a fork mount to a rail in front of the rear doors allowing 2/3 bikes even if you have a row of side cabinets.
