After months of saving we finally chose a base van to convert into our dream camper van. We picked it up Saturday and already have it booked in for windows roof and lining next week . Our converter says he’l send us picture update every step of the way.

We’re hoping to use this page as a way of documenting our progress and as a way of looking back on the project. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations please shout up.

We’ve been playing around with ideas and we’re going for something a little like this for the inside .....

Looks good.

Personally, I would draw out what you want an see if you can fit what you need into the space available. For example, it looks like there isn't a cupboard for a portaloo under your bed, do you need one or will it go in the big cupboard within the unit. How do you feel about the toilet being in amongst pans and stuff??

I tend to find that mapping it out makes it clearer in your head and makes you feel more confident that you have picked the correct layout for you.
:)

Thanks @Stewby . we were pretty set on the Cali rail system so it would be stored behind the seat while driving then we were going to use either a drive away awning or a toilet/shower tent once we park up. Would you say that’s a sensible choice? We rented a camper in the summer which didn’t have a loo inside and got on fine but glad we parked close to facilities !

Sounds like a plan. It depends on what you wish to do with your van. We originally started off on sites with electric and all mod-cons but then progressed on to wild camping which means that you can't always guarantee a toilet is available (also, not really able to put up awnings). As long as you have a back-up plan, like a space in the van with the bed down where the portaloo fits then it is all good. Just watch out for some sites.... we stayed on one in Orkney which didn't have anything but pitches, water and electric. Did have an amazing view though.
:)

Looking forward to seeing your conversion as it progresses.

Thank you stewby we have a little one so it’ll mainly be campsites for the time being . Dropped it off with the converters Wednesday . Will post more as I get updates .

After a bit of a wait, we have some progress this week. Roof fitted and windows cut out. Exciting to see things getting going. The next few weeks can’t pass quick enough.

The Cali captain seats are in . Excuse the mucky seats they haven’t been cleaned yet. but I’m so happy with them, much more comfy than the originals. Matching Cali bed and kitchen units collected and ready to go in! Getting closer now
