the switch is directly connected to the BCM, ABS module and the engine module.

I thought as much was thinking it must go to the abs first, have had a bit of ongoing issue had the coil light come on over month ago and replaced the brake light switch was fine for about three weeks went to dealer for key coding and back on whilst there they changed switch under parts warranty used van all weekend all ok and today same fault again all connections to rear lights all ok just have to work my way back through it cheers

If the switch fittings havent changed since I worked at VW, you get a one-time chance to fit the switch correctly or you can mess it up and it doesnt operate as it should ie. Coil light flashing!

Having on going issue around a month ago brake switch failed I fitted new one ( genuine) was fine for three weeks then had to go to dealer as a auto locksmith mucked up my bcm and locking, bcm had to be reprogrammed to get locking working but at this visit the coil light came on and brake switch implausible dealer changed under parts warranty was fine for two days then back on, if I clear fault and leave van running it's fine as soon as brake pressed hill assist error appears and fault is logged in abs module if cleared and driving first hill start the coil light comes on, brake lights work fine , today I removed passenger seat disconnected harness and made dummy harness with bulbs and fault occurs first press of pedal so I know it's nothing to do with cab back, going to have to continue the hunt through the wiring, beginning to think it maybe internal fault in abs module

It could be a chaffed wire somewhere, it does happen. I agree on getting the CFD for the Brake lt. switch /BCM etc and tracing it back. Good luck.
