Brake Issue Diagnosis

Hi all,

I've been having an issue with the brakes on my 2016 Caravelle, and hoping the sage minds of the T6 forum can help point me in the right direction.

The issue: Intermittent soft brake pedal. When you release the pedal and reapply the brakes bite with no issue. Slowing for, or waiting at traffic lights the pedal continues to drop.

It's been into VW Van Centre Bristol, who have changed the brake fluid, although don't believe there is a problem.
It has also been in to Streetwise Automotive for a service, who agree there is an issue and suggest possible ABS pump issue.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks all

Those symptoms sound like air in the fluid. Even if the fluid was changed, you could still have air in if not bled properly. Try wedging a suitably sized plank of wood to keep the brake pedal depressed overnight and see how the brakes are in the morning. The sustained pressure makes any air bubbles much smaller and they flow out of trapped areas where they may have been stuck before.

Agreed, all the symptoms of air in the system
I found my 6.1 a bit of a git to bleed after I fitted a bigger brake kit to it, did a full fluid change following the correct procedure etc and pedal felt awful after I fitted the kit and ended up bleeding it a few times before it resolved

I didn't have a good experience with VW Bristol, hence trying Streetwise, who were great, other than not being able to diagnose the brake issue.
