Bluetooth Speaker Options

I'm thinking about getting a bluetooth speaker to take with me in the van.

The usage would be when parked up to give better sound whilst watching a film on a tablet, or to stream music to whilst camping.

Requirements -
Bluetooth
Built in battery
12v rechargeable

Any suggestions?

The JBL/HK products look pretty good, but not sure about the 12 rechargeable element...

I've got an Apple Homepod in every room at home, two paired up in the lounge and they sound quite decent, but obviously no good for the van.

But I got an Amazon Echo 3rd gen for the kitchen, and I have to say that Alexa is far, far more versatile than Siri and at less than half the price of a Homepod it sounds very decent.

The other advantage of the Echo is that it runs off a simple 12v usb cable, so it's easy to hook up in the van or you can hook it up to a battery pack instead.

I have a Bose Soundlink Mini for watching TV inside the van. For outside music I have a pair of Bose Revolve+ that can be linked together. Both sound awesome.

What's your budget?

If you're on a low budget I can totally recommend the Betron E50 - and it's only 12 quid! (check them on EBay.)

If you're in the upper end of the market anything from Bose is going to be quality. Sure, you can spend a shed load on the likes of the Bose but you don't need to. Despite its low price I found the sound quality of the Betron to be utterly superb. It's got bluetooth and can charge from a usb cable. Lots of positive reviews too. And like I said, only 12 quid!

Is there anything small enough for van use that’s stereo? I’d like something like this but I couldn’t live with mono.

I know what you mean, but the Bose is a clever little thing and in the confines of a camper should give you a modicum of stereo effect. I will go out in the morning and do a little test.

Standby caller!

We use one of these in the van:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Wireless-Aluminium-Wirelessly-Smartphone-Black/dp/B00X7SIO6Y
It delivers plenty of volume when needed, sounds good and is infinitely better than the sound from the speakers in the TV in the van (a Cello which is barely audible to a pair of lug holes that suffer from a lifetime of gunfire!!). It works with either a bluetooth or wired connection (assuming your source has a headphone / audio out socket) and the rechargeable battery lasts for ages - even longer if you don't use the bluetooth. We've got the V2 version which was introduced earlier this year and paid £85 on Amazon - if I lost the one we have, I'd happily pay the current asking price of £95 to get another.

I've got a Sony SRS-XB01. For £20-25 it gives adequate sound, is small, rechargeable and water resistant, and there are several colours...

That looks ideal

Andy, By coincidence, I was in my local Currys/PC World this morning and they had one on display. If you're near a branch and they have them in stock, they will let you connect one to your phone to try it for yourself. FWIW, they seemed to have a pretty wide selection of alternatives as well.

You can get reviews on youtube by clavinette junkie and most of what he reviews you can get on Amazon.
I bought a Soundcore motion plus at £90 odd but realistically could have spent far less as any of these bits of kit get loud enough and will soon be commented on by swmbo.:(
