Bip&Go

So... A bit niche this, but you never know.

We are heading down to Portugal in a couple of weeks time and I am trying to register for a Bip&Go tag.

Easy! I hear you say.

Nope, tried any number of different ways of inputting the data and it always spits me out at the end.

There are no contact details on the site, it just keeps pointing you back to the FAQs which don't have an answer, so no help there.

Anybody had this before? Is it because I am registered as a Panel Van and am looking for a 'private' tag? Is it because I have a personal plate and their records are sh*t?

Any ideas?

I haven't got a Portuguese tag but I did buy our French and Spanish ones from Emovis where registration was simples (and they are both pretty flawless in operation). It might be a bit late for you now but Emovis also do the Portuguese tags.

I decided on Bip&Go (silly name!) because they are cheaper, and you only need one tag.

But if I can't resolve this, I will be going to Emovis.

Do you get as far as the bank account details as you need an account that will do euro automatic transactions, not many do. And that will keep taking you back.

Hmmmm - now that is a very good point! I used my HSBC account, which I think allows automatic Euro withdrawals etc...

I will check.

Thanks!!

I had to open a Lloyds account as there are only a handful who allow the type of transactions it requires. Once set uo it works brilliantly.

I would rather be dragged naked over broken Newcastle Brown bottles by rusty mole grips attached to my nipples than give one single penny of my ill-gotten gains to Lloyds.

Not keen?

You can change the number plate as and when you want via on line pages, so perhaps it does not see you personal plate so put in another one (family) then when it arrives login to your account and change vehicle plate. I have change mine a few times to allow friends visiting Spain and Portugal to use my bip&go without problem.

Had mine now for 3 years works great.

I have a Bip&Go tag but I have a Starling Bank Euro account where I just convert pounds to euros. The Starling euro account is not available to everybody but you can also use Revolut. Also note that if your Bip&Go tag is not used for a period of 14 consecutive months then you will be charged a fee of €10.
