Bike too long for genuine rack

Hi I have recently picked up a used genuine VW bike rack for my tailgate t5.1. I have just noticed they the wheel base of my bike is much greater than the distance between the 2 ratchet straps. Both wheels fit nicely in the runners but the straps are nowhere near. Has anyone got any solutions for this issue.
Thanks for any help

I assume you’ve worked out that the straps move? Pinch them and slide.

I don't think it's that type. There are 3 different positioned slots for the webbing type ratchet strap. It's not like the plastic ratchet type like you would get on Thule

Sorry then, I can’t help - mine is genuine VW and haven’t seen any other types. Hopefully someone else is familiar with it.

Perhaps just one wheel needs to be secured through the section, and the other strap can just go around the section?

Yeah, the straps should be long enough to go all the way around the bars, the three little slots just hold the straps in place when not in use, i dont see them as necessary and used to carry a bike without using them
