Also engine CFCA (T5.1/T6) has the same ECU.

Hi everyone,
I just thought I’d add to this thread by sharing my experience in enquiring about the tuning of the transporter with the Bosch ecu. Earlier in the year.

I contacted MRC to try and understand costs and process of tuning my van. I’ve a 2022 6.1 150bhp with 7 speed DSG. The stock map is horrendous so I’d love to get it done. Issue is I live in Ireland. MRC are in the uk. When I contacted them in January, I had this idea as I was coming over for 2 weeks (renovate my sisters bathroom in The Wirral) that they might be able to do it for me while I was over. Now I naively thought this was a 1-2 day job and may cost 500-600 quid. Well I’ll just post the email correspondence that I began on MRC’s web contact form thingy…

Hi, I live in Ireland and I’m driving to uk in February for 2 weeks. I’m looking to get my 2022 DSG transporter mapped. I presume it has the Bosch ecu and I want the gear box mapped too. Is that possible with you? Thanks

Sarah at MCR replied:
Hi Adam
Yes this is possible, 2 weeks is a bit tight as sometimes we have issues with the ECU's being stuck in customs. As long as we don't have any issues then 2 weeks should be enough time.
I have sent through an estimate please check your spam folder also.
Please can I have your chassis number also.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for the reply.
I wasn’t sure of the process. I thought the whole thing could be done in a full day (mapped, rolling road, etc.)
So am I right in thinking, the ECU needs to be removed from the vehicle, sent away to be ‘modified’ then sent back, refitted and then what? And while the ecu is sent away the vehicle is immobile at your place?
The quote you sent is for a different vehicle. And doesn’t state whether the DSG will be mapped also.
Mine is a 2022 transporter DSG 150bhp.

Sarah replied:
Hi Adam
Unfortunately not as we have to get the ECU unlocked and then we can tune/ code to the code etc
Thank you for the extra info, as your registration doesn’t work on our system I had to put in a random model of car to be able to create the estimate. All of the details I have put on there are correct for your vehicle. We should be able to tune the DSG for you also

So, that’s what I got. The ESTIMATE that Sarah sent is £1500 ex vat. Wasn’t clear if that included mapping the DSG either but I’d hope it does.

The cost is one thing but having my van sitting in a garage in the uk for possibly more than 3 weeks is the biggest hurdle for me. I even then thought…could I just buy a second hand ecu of the same so they can send that off, get it cracked and sent back, then going in with my van to have ecu swapped out for the existing one, tune/map the engine & gearbox, then possibly selling the one that’s removed? I dunno.

Anyone got any thoughts on all that?

@minmax89 whats so horrendous about your current map? I realise some people like to remap but I don’t hear hardly any negative comments about the 150 standard map. Are you sure you haven’t got some sort of underlying problem with your van?

I went from a 2017 T6 150 DSG to a same spec 6.1. I assumed it would be the exact same. I immediately noticed a difference in the inorganic nature of the power delivery. Serious turbo lag, delay in changing to the right gear etc. I’ve lived with it for 3 years, thinking I would get used to it. But I haven’t. Now the van is out of warranty I’m contemplating a remap. Let me be clear, the actual power of the 150bhp, I’m ok with. When the van is light, It’s plenty enough. When it’s heavy, it’s adequate. I want a ‘better’ map. From what I’ve read I can get that AND a better mapped DSG too. And I’ll happily take a bit of extra power of course but it’s not my primary reason for contemplating this. I don’t plan on upgrading this van with anything else so it’s a long term investment thing too.

Funny, I was just going to find this thread to ask a question and it’s already been resurrected today!

So, my question is, has the Bosch ECU been cracked yet? Is it now generally doable by all and sundry and has anyone had it done successfully?

Seems it has. By some company in France. I’m pretty sure MRC send it to them, get it cracked so it can be recapped by anyone that can remap any ecu I presume

Is the Bosch ecu ever going to get an easily available remap?

Could really do with a bit more poke.

I would like to ask about ECU. The 20019 199bhp T6 the forgotten one as it has a similar engine to the T6.1 different DSG box I understand what ECU do they have? Is this tuning applicable to that or does it have the delph ECU

Also The DSG is that tunable I know that some outlet do the box but they talk about less engine braking while I most definitely want tractor type engine braking I expect deceleration when lifting off the throttle not 2 stoke run on and practically zero engine braking.

All for increase of number race horses but also want carthorse torque! If that makes sense!
