Best ET offset - 20"

My rims are 9" wide and 245 is the recommended tyre width, but I think they could easily take a 275 wide tyre.

We’ve run loads of 275/35/20 on 8.5 - You will have no issues. Even though the recommended is narrower.

You can run the 265/40/20 as an option, if you want to run a narrower tyre - If you are T32, then this is the one to go for, for the 104 load rating.

I'd be very interested in your view of where I should be with tyres and offsets if I am running 20" rims on a T6 T32 Kombi LWB 4Motion DSG

Seem to get all sorts of views.

Was told that an ET from 38 - 45 is fine. Can the correct range really be that wide ?? Arch strikes ?

Is there a set up with 20" rims that has the least or zero impact on wheel alignment and the associated issues when all alignment parameters are not correct??

It appears the consensus is that I should be running 40 profile for the best ride quality on 20"??

If you weren't so bothered about mileage/cost of tyres, but prioritized noise, ride comfort and all round grip higher, is there a clear tyre choice??

Sorry it's a bit heavy but learning it's a heavy topic that needs to be done right  ..... many thanks in advance

@Shredder, the difference between a 38 and a 45 offset is 7mm.
You haven't said how wide your wheels are, but by way of comparison, the difference between an 8.5" wide rim and a 9" wide rim is 12.7mm.

If you want to learn about tyre sizes, the best place to look is with a tool like this: Will They Fit - Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator
Enter the size of the standard wheels and tyres and then find one that matches the overall size on the new wheels.
The problems start to appear with available sizes, load ratings etc etc.
Also remember that the profile figure (e.g. 40, 45) is a percentage not an actual measurement. So a 245/45 r19 has the same sidewall height as a 275/40 r19 - both are 110mm.

That's very helpful thanks. All my life I haven't known about the sidewall height number being a % either !! As you say, I actually thought it was actual

So if you put 265/40/20 tyres on 9 & 10 is the difference between the two noticeable? Is there a bulge on sidewall ? I’m worried that they won’t look right.

One day someone will put together the perfect T6 wheel, tyre and offset with the right suspension height, and get it spot on.
In the mean time I will just keep spending hours looking at different options and looks, and wasting my money.

I want to sell my T6 and buy a bog standard Escort van and just use it without a care in the world.

Thanks I’m just having a bit of a flap about tyres. I think they’re the ones I need anyway

In more detail, I ran 265/40/20s on 8.5 et25 front....these rubbed due to the et being 25. I then changed them to 245/45/20s and they very slightly rubbed on the outer arches however I had dropped the front to an inch above the tyre....again this was due to the et being 25....on the rear I ran 275/40/20s on 9.5 et35 and these were a perfect fit.

I personally think, and others will have there opinion, that if your running 9s on the front you need an ET45 fitment and 265/40/20s won't bulge. I'd also prefer the 9.5 et35 on the rear as 10s are tight.....at least this way you can buy 265/40/20s all round
