Awning/Tent on hard standing ?

Another novice question.
How do you pitch a tent or awning on a hard standing at the campsite? Special pegs are something?

You can get 'hard ground pegs', which are more robust, and even ones have a thread and you use a drill to get them in the ground.

Hard standings really vary. I've never had a problem with some good hard ground pegs and a hefty mallet, but a friend of mine has ruined a set of pegs at one particular site by bending them all! You definitely need something more robust than the cheap ones that usually come with a tent or awning.

Definitely get the thick heavy duty tent pegs. We tried and failed too many times with the crappy thin ones that come with tents.

I've got a a 3lb lump hammer I use to whack them in! Not found ground I couldn't beat into submission yet! Haha

Have something heavy duty to pull the pegs out too. A cautionary tale but I struggled on a site near Minehead with a cheap peg puller and when struggling to get them out got a number of really small cuts/cracks to my hand. Didn’t realise at the time, but a week later, I totally lost the use of the hand due to an infection in the tendons and got hospitalised. Luckily IV antibiotics for 3 days solid worked, but it was touch and go as to whether I was going to need an operation to clear it out.
I now always use builders gloves and a pair of mole grips for peg extraction.

If a peg is stuck, it's usually helpful to take a lump hammer and give it a couple of thumps to each side and backwards and forwards to loosen things up (I'm assuming you had something heavier than a rubber mallet if you managed top get it in int the first place). I tend to use at few 30cm rebar pegs with my awnings and as a rule once they're in, they stay in until the above method is used.

Yes always a lump hammer. Bashed them every which way. Poured water on them and let it soak, but still were a bitch to remove and most of them came out bent. It was the first and only time that I really struggled.
