So after going back and forth over a couple of awningswe have realised we need to brave a shop or two to see them. Any recommendations for any stores that have a good selections of awnings that are out on display? We live in Swindon but willing to drive aN our or two if needed.

Attwools at Whitminster on the A38 is about an hour from you (other side of Stroud) and always has a decent selection of Vango and Kampa awnings on display. I think they have now reopened but check for yourself - on their website. in my experience, they will usually price match as well.

Just one small point to consider when looking which caught us out - which way does the main door on the awning point.
some are in the same direction as the windscreen and others as the side door.
not a major issue but if you want to sit in your awning and enjoy the view then you need to think about it’s orientation.
Yes another vote for Attwools, easy to find and park.

Brilliant - will try and head over there ! We’ve been leaning towards the ones that have an opening at the same side as the windscreen- any disadvantage to this?

Don’t know your area that well now having moved up north...but what ever you get make sure the Kador strip is the right size for your awning rail ...found that air beams are a lot less hassle and size does matter...think what’s going in it and add 25%.. I’ve brought what I thought was ok and then lost money trading up to what the wife thinks is just right ...;)

Doesn’t that depend which way round you park?

Exactly but that’s what you need to consider, some UK sites insist you park ‘head on’ in which case you can end up staring at your neighbours unless you have a windscreen direction opening.
in France we can normally park sideways on which gives us loads of privacy but for this we need a sliding door direction opening.
We only got over this by buying two awnings, extravagant I know, a Khyam motordome (windscreen direction) and a Vango Kelli (sliding door).
just thought it was a point worth mentioning.

When we were shopping for our awning, I was conscious of main door orientation and, at first, wanted one with it pointing in the same direction as the windscreen. However most of those that we saw (and, to me eyeballing it was important) and that had the main door in that direction just seemed either too big for our needs or had something else wrong with them. In the end, we copied what seems to be half the civilised world and bought a Vango Kela (unsurprisingly, from Attwools who I recommended above and are just over a mile from me). Yes, the main door does point away from the side but it also has two reaonably sized side doors and window (facing front and rear) and it's the perfect size for just two of us to use as a dining / leisure area.

Our main concern was that we required 2 individual sleeping compartments for the kids to sleep in. This led to us getting an awning that would make the Crystal Palace look a bit pokey! So I think it will be too big for a lot of sites and we’ll have to go with a sun awning and two small tents instead which could also cause us issues on some more particular sites.

Anyway, the point I guess is that it’s worth considering the size of the awning too when compared to the average plot size

There are a few awnings on the for sale section at the moment so if you can decide quickly there may be a bargain to be had

I know I’ve been looking at a few but we keep changing our minds and feel until we see some that are up and usable we won’t make a good choice. Hoping to go this weekend to see some

Very sensible, we rushed into getting a awning and ended up going with an olpro one as this fitted our requirements best and we needed one urgently to go away with the kids, then lockdown happened and so we haven’t used it yet.

Interestingly (or worryingly), no one else seems to have olpro awnings on here!

I must say I’ve never heard of an Olpro awning.

Attwools are just up the road from us they have a good selection and they now have a new showroom for awnings.

I was also going to suggest Attwools as you are in Swindon.
Attwools also have a Youtube channel with lots of awning videos which might help you narrow down your choice before you actually visit.
