I took my van to a local car wash today and this is the result on my awning rail! It used to look a nice Matt black and now it’s patchy :-( any ideas how I might restore it to looking nice again?

Was this a jet wash or a drive through? I'm always a bit wary of both types.....

A hand wash where they spray chemicals and jet wash it off. It’s obviously the chemical that has ‘burnt’ into the rail

I know it sounds like a wind up - Apparently the oils in the peanut butter work! Quick Google check will confirm.....

Just don't visit any Safari Parks soon after!

I know that there are exceptions to every rule, but......
As a rule, these hand car washes want to get as many vehicles through each day at minimum cost, with the vehicles coming out very clean.
The best way to do that is to use harsh chemicals that strip traffic film and road grime off efficiently. The trouble is they are harsh on everything, stripping off waxes and sealants as well as dirt.
I only trust myself to wash my cars and van, at least if I cock it up I know who to blame! Anyway, must go, apparently there's a rush on peanut butter at the shop.......

I’ve used Silkwood non-silicon furniture polish on powdercoated parts to spruce them up. Available in most supermarkets. Also good on carbon fibre.

The wash monkeys use very harsh chemicals that strip eveything off the paint and plastics.

I had some Muc Off take the colour out of a very expensive anodised alloy clock surround on my KTM, turned the black a lighter colour, not happy.
