Auto Headlights Stuck On

I cannot find the answer to this one.
My headlights seem to be stuck on in the Auto position during the day and will only switch off manually.

Anyone else has this problem ?

Even in bright sunlight? Mine will come on if I drive past a single bush that blocks the sun and they permanently light about an hour before dusk, never mind at lighting up time! Very overly sensitive. Sounds like a sensor issue? Not a bit of bird crap over it is there?

They are super sensitive. Too much so I reckon. I was following a T6 the other day and both our lights were coming on and going off at the same time, often just going under a overhead phone wire. The same with a Mk7 Golf recently too. The Golf does have a setting to alter the sensitivity of the sensor tho'.

Headlights will come on when the sun is low and behind you. It is good practice to do this anyway, as it makes you more visible to people driving towards you, into the sun.

The other reason for headlights always on is if dipped beam has been set for DRLs. I doubt that's something that would change itself, but might be worth a look with VCDS.

Just to clarify, I've driven this since new in 2017, so I know my van and this is a new issue.

A wise man told me once in my youth that it's dangerous to presume.

The screen was clean, but there was clear splatter trail from what I can only assume was a large bug. It wasn't that obvious, but I've cleaned it off anyway and they now seem to be working as they should. Hopefully that's cured it.

Who'd of thunk they'd be so sensitive.

hahahahahaha . . . . .:cry::thumbsup::laugh:

A wise man once told me to

"KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid!"

check the obvious stupid things before making a beeline for the diagnostic scanners and oscilloscopes.

FYI - doesnt the screen wipers go over the sensor . . . . . . . so a screen wash/windscreen wipe should clear the sensor?

.

its called the RLS (rain light sensor) its behind the mirror and on the glass too.

The mirror has light sensors in the front and back for the auto dim function....

the other two spot are IR tx/rx to detect water droplets on the glass for the auto wipers.

all this is data is sent over the CAN-BUS, one of the functions is the auto lights . . .

so normally if its dirty it effects the autolights.

I would check the connector/plug at the back of the main light switch.
