Greetings,

I purchased a golf mk6 auto headlight switch (small connector).

Arrived in 24hrs and fitted perfectly, ran sensor under a pillar trim and is a neat look.

All functions work out of the box - no need for a £55 one from Transporter specialists.

DRLs are on, sidelights added at dusk, switches to headlight when dark. Also has coming home feature enabled as standard which is nice.

Headlight warning when unlocking and locking for a few seconds but no biggie.

Disabled parking light warning as per another vcds guide but that didn’t help, so light warning must be somewhere else, but as mentioned not a big issue as it only chimes three times and gives the message once.

I got it from the below link, figured it may help some people / save a few quid.

Perhaps related to the setting below (the byte 24) - although might lose the coming home functionality by altering the setting.

Afternoon, can confirm this was what I tried originally, it shows as ‘parking lights’ in coding. Originally set to ‘on’ from factory, even though no parking lights actually come on. Set to ‘off’ and saved, coming home feature still works but alert to switch off lights still happens.

Thanks.

Just order one, fingers crossed.
If yours is eu6, non-xenon standard lights with small connector I see no reason why it would not work as should be same as mine. Good luck - easily the cheapest and best value mod I have done to date.

I put the wire through the back, popped side dash trim off near the door and fed it through until I could grab it under lower dash, then neatly fed it around the side of the dash where the panel was popped off, and to make it look neat, popped a pillar off and put cable under that, cable tying neatly to the tweeter loom and out near back of dash. Cleaned corner of the dash near windscreen, stuck sensor in the corner facing windscreen and all good

Probably took about 20 mins all in.

If your van is like mine it will chime when ignition is removed with the switch in the auto position, but only does this a few times and shows message once, then stops.

It does the same and chimes when you unlock, as the lights come on, but bot a big issue for me.

Maybe at somepoint we will discover if we can disable the light off warning.

It could be byte 5 bit 3 changing 1 to 0, but I wouldn’t like to say for sure as I cannot confirm as I haven’t had chance to try and need to wait until I see my friend with obdeleven next (I really want to buy obdeleven but do not have an android device atm!).

Maybe if anyone else can check what byte 5 bit 3 description if it has one they can perhaps provide a bit more insight.

what byte 5 bit 3 description is
Hmmm... OBDeleven describes that one as
Acoustical Locking Confirmation (Horn) duration from 40 ms to 20 ms (Akustische (Sirene/Sounder) Bestätigung von 40 ms auf 20 ms verkürzt)

In VCDS nothing for that.

Hmmm, doesn’t sound hopeful, sounds more like horn plip for lock and unlock then

I'm not sure if the cable is long enough, but when I fitted one of these in the Polo, I ran the cable up behind the A pillar trim, under the headlining and mounted the sensor on the rear view mirror wiring cover.

There lays the problem I have a Euro5 so not even sure it will work!
Hopefully it will work the same, I assume you have the small connector same as EU6.

Fingers crossed as if it does, a nice cheap mod for you :)

Ref cable length, I am not sure it has enough length to go through a-pillar and roof lining - nice idea though! I can’t confirm for sure as I ran it the other way and its all fitted now :)

Byte 5 bit 3 - changes the tone of locking confirmation beep.

Did your van have a sensor already? I've just got my van and it does not have auto headlights but want to add it. ***Edit*** sorry just noticed your kit is switch AND sensor.

How can you tell whether your headlights are on in the Auto position ? Is the lamp on the switch illuminated all the time when selected or does it illuminate only when the headlights are actually active?
Hope this makes sense...

I bought a new auto switch but it works like the older switch, so I looked into buying just the sensor. Sadly Google only suggests a new switch & sensor.

Anyone able to suggest a sensor only buy? (Other than VW direct)
Thanks

Factory Auto lights use the light/rain sensor in the windscreen. I'm guess you don't have Auto wipers if the new switch didn't work?
