Am I looking for a layout that doesn't exist?

We are downsizing from a Motorhome and want a VW max 5 metre single bed, galley kitchen, diesel heater, water and waste tank, with space for a toilet inside (of one type or another?). Is this possible and will it have enough storage space.

Have a look at Jerba for some ideas. Having a toilet inside makes it tricky, especially in a SWB, unless you just keep it under the bed. They do a loo at the back in the ‘Senna’ layout, but on LWB.

If you only need to sleep one in a single bed, then you could maybe do a roof bed layout, and then you need much less seating in the back, and maybe create a loo at the back.

If you’re going from a Motorhome to a VW you’re going to find a big change in space amd how you use it. I am going full circle myself, when I started with campers in the 70’s split screen VW then various VW vans up to T4, then went to Winnebago, then A class motorhome and now that’s for sale to go to a T6.

We looked at a rear kitchen T6 similar to this a few years ago, but found the seat/beds were really uncomfortable for both sitting and sleeping.
We have a portapotty under the bed and never used it (and hopefully never will).

Perfectly doable. You probably won't need the waste water tank and a 20l inboard plastic jerry can type will be sufficient. We have a 20l fixed container and a 10l water carrier that we use on site. Going from a MoHo to a Campervan requires a different mindset, it's a "Camper Van", you are effectively camping in a posh tent, not 5 star spa luxury.
Are you looking to buy an ready done conversion or a new build? If you're going for a ready built, then you buy what's available, new build, then the worlds your lobster, within the constraints of space and budget.

Yes and no.

Layout, yes. Just search for "rear kitchen layout", many of them include a toilet. Leisuredrive Vivante being one example.

Storage, no.

The layout means no big space at the back like you would get behind a rock'n'roll seat.

So you need to consider where to put chairs, bedding, awning, barbecue etc.

why don't you try a conversion company that makes something to your spec rather then flatpack preconfigured solutions. look at someone like Visiontech Automotive that will discuss what you want to achieve and then build you something bespoke.

Also look at the Horizon Roof for the lowest profile, highest elevating poptop. and I would also recommend you get a LWB, those extra inches make a huge difference inside and minimal difference when parking and driving...

Sackmycook has the hightop, I have the elevating roof. (I would never call ours a pop top considering the weight of it!)

I'm in Stockport.

Take a look at

The electrics are a bit dated. I had a Lithium and chargers installed elsewhere.

Also the elevating roof isn't very suitable for solar when it is up, it's a lot steeper than a standard or reverse poptop.

But on the whole, they are very well put together.

Yes, electric set-up could be better these days and the curtains are crap. But the layout is good and it's versatile
I'd have preferred to keep the VW front seats but LD use their own ones which fold flat for the beds. Not the best driving seats

Have a word with Vanquest in Bideford we bought our T6 camper conversion from them in 2018 and have been very happy with it. They were happy to do variations on the standard stuff. Really good service and workmanship!

Knights also worth a look. Mountain tourer has a toilet and they’re happy to go off piste with spec, though it’ll not be cheap. They’re award winning for a reason and very happy with ours (different layout). If you can stand a new transporter the layout works even better due to width. But who wants one of those lol

You may find Hillside Leisure’s Cromford campervan worth looking at. It has a rear WC/shower and galley kitchen with a twin RIB bed configuration and is based on a LWB Transporter. It’s available with either a high top or a SCA rear raising pop-top. The Derby based company has supplied this model for several years so can be found used as a T6 or T6.1, or new as a New Transporter.
