Airconditioning Issue

Hello All,

This weekend was the first time i'd had chance to try the Air Conditioning out on the van and well.... it doesn't work. I have seen the other threads about making sure its not on the windscreen etc and being set to the lowest temperature setting but I just get ambient temperature air from the vents. The van still has 13 months VW warranty left so I plan to take it to my local dealer but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what it may be? I suspect low refrigerant (and therefore most likely a leak too) but has anyone else had similar issues? Its a May 2016 T6 with the standard AC. Cheers.

I know it sounds daft but did you press the AC button so the light on the button came on ?

Most annoying, cold air is virtually instant on mine so sounds like something is definitely wrong, time to get reacquainted with your dealer :(

Yeah, I figured its most likely a leak and in need of that sorting and then re-gassing but will let the dealer sort that. The van is converted to a camper so I certainly hope the dealer doesn't have issues with the existing warranty. Cant see they will though as a conversion doesn't touch the powertrain etc. Will let you know how I get on. Going to check its up to date on software and also get them to check the DMF while its in, may as well as i do get a slight judder now and again.

UPDATE! Being busy with work I had to wait until now to go to a dealer but the Aircon is now fixed. Long story short the condenser had been taken off at some point in the vehicles life (I can only assume during the camper conversion) and the system was simply not re-gassed.... The VW dealer did a pressure and vac test and found no leaks at all. As there was Zero refrigerant in the system they said that it was clear the system just hadn't been re-filled. Air Conditioning is freezing cold now so I am happy. I also mentioned that the flywheel was slightly noisy and I had some clutch judder, so its booked in on the 25th for this to be done under warranty. Happy days :)

Keep your eye on it, had a similar issue on previous vehicle and there was a leak even though the garage insisted there wasn’t. I can’t see any reason for a converter to go anywhere near it. To cut a long story short mine had a little leak in the condenser (looks like a little radiator) and it took a specialist to locate it.
