Air Suspension for inflating tyres?

Does anyone has any experience of using the tank drain valve in their air suspension set-up for other purposes?

I’m wondering whether - with a suitable valve and gauge - I could use the air tank as a source for inflating bike tyres, or maybe even van tyres in an emergency? It seems silly to carry another compressor when I have two already under the van!

Any tips or recommendations of whether/how that could be done?

Do not yet have air but don’t many of the fitment by outlets have an air take off for tyres. I believe that some might have a take off as an accessory. Perhaps those that are tailored for off road use? Another option is to look at the off road world Landrover world. Vehicle fitted air pumps and airlines curly and otherwise, single and twin pump are I would not say common but are available. Mostly these are kits that supply air to operate Differential Locks and come with additional kit for airing out and reinflating tyres. It is a while since I look at that sort of kit but the pumps are similar to those used for air suspension. Have a word with your fitting people who converted your vehicle or have a look at the set ups off road guys use on U Tube or just on line generally. Should be simple enough to extend you own system.

The drain valve is to release water. You would end up with water in your tyres. This would play havoc with balancing and cause vibrations.

I've no experience of air suspension, but I wouldn't use the air tank drain port for supplying other things. You need the drain valve, which is at the lowest point of the tank to drain moisture/water out of the tank, which is produced every time the compressor is run. Using that port, or teeing off it to supply something else will encourage the collected water to get forced into that "user". Far better would be take any additional supplies from the top of the tank, which is where I would assume the supply for your air suspension is sourced from ?

That is all very true - but the drain valve is convenient since it already exits the vehicle below the rear bumper. I was assuming I would purge the water before using the outlet - but you’re right, it would be better to run a separate line that tees off the top of the tank.
