Replacing standard seats with ones fitted with airbags.

Hi All,

Just ordered a set of car seats from fleabay with side airbags. My current Startline panelvan seats don't have airbags.

So... Safety question...
Is it worth trying to hook these up to the existing dahsboard airbag circuit or is it best to just leave them inactive?? Any CANBUS issues etc??

I am quite techy and quite happy with adding to vehicle electrics, but not a vehicle electrics specialist so happy to take experienced advice. If this is ok to do, has anyone got a guide? Direct hook in, or relays etc??

Thanks guys... :)

Firstly, those seat airbags won't be engineered to deploy with the shape and clearance with respect to the side mouldings of the van.

Secondly, side airbags are for side impacts. They are triggered indepently of the front airbags.

I'd say it's risky territory interfering with the front system.

Yeah, two very good points... Cheers.

I think it's 'Fit and forget' and cut off the airbag labels :)

Less work for me to do as well... Desision made!
