Aftermarket Led Units, As Good As Oem?

As title really, a lot of the vans I’m looking at tend to not have the led lights as standard, so are the aftermarket options comparable (for example transporterhq, etc).

I’m looking at only highline models, do they all come with h7 lights or do some come with h4?

All the aftermarket options available at the moment, other than VW, are halogen. The THQ and a couple of others use LEDs for the DRL but not the actual headlights. A search will turn up plenty of threads on here

They all come with H4 as standard, will only be H7 of ordered as an extra from the factory

Ok, is there any visual way to tell between h4 and h7?

Obviously the only way I’m going to LEDs is to buy a van specked with them from the factory.

Most would say go for a drive at night.

If you cant see the road then you have H4 lights fitted !!!!.

Jokes aside, the easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the inner light reflector.
On the H4 lights it is for the DRL and the lens is not super reflective like the outer lens.

The H7 twin reflector unit also has more chromey bits inside the lens and the DRL is at the bottom.

Travelin-Lite sells a kit with LED dipped headlamp bulbs..
however - I can’t say I’ve read the new MOT rules but think that LED dipped bulbs require auto-levelling, which you won’t have.

No it would fail regardless, new rules state aftermarket LED bulbs and HID kits are now an instant fail. As the bulbs for dipped beam are aftermarket LED they would fail.

The DRL part of the light would be fine though so you could just do a bulb swap just before the MOT if you wanted.....oh and also bear in mind the LED bulbs are for "off road use only" they are NOT road legal.

I think if I buy one with H4's, I'll just upgrade to H7's judging by the responses! Swapping out bits for an MOT is a pain in the bum (I say this as someone who definitely doesn't have an MOT cat for his other car....).

So, LED lights on the top of the options wish list :)
