Adding usb charger to interior light circuit

Is this possible? safe?

I have a T6.1 factory Kombi that was supplied with regular interior lights. I have replaced all the interior bulbs (except the passenger footwell lights on each side) with LEDS.

Could I use the switched 12v from the light circuit to power a double USB charger; 5V 1A and 2.1A.

I do not have a leisure battery- so if this wold work then I'd not have to tap into the fuse box / run wires and it would automatically shut off.

Many thanks

The switching is done on the -ve side and it's faded using PWM. It would be far better to run a wire back to the fuse box and use a piggy back connector.

I imagine you'd have to switch the lights on permanently to keep it running too?...
It's very easy to attach a piggy back and with the glove box off (also very easy) you can get the wiring round the back of the fuse box and up to multiple areas on the LH side of the dash.
The ignition live feed from the fuse box will also shut off when the key is removed so no worries about a flat battery.
This is a (T6) fuse box and glove box area for reference. Not a particularly wide angle shot under the dash admittedly...

does that wireless charger actually work through the thickness of the plastic cuby hole?

and with the phone mot being magnetically attached?

Yes. The plastic really is wafer thin and while it doesn't fast charge it certainly works. I haven't tried it with my phone case off yet so with luck being 1mm closer may be enough.
Take a look here, there's a link to a short (very amateurish) video.
Induction magic

I hate cables so this is perfect.
