Aargh! Dab Error After Hard Wiring Dash Cam

God help me! Following on from installing my dash cam a couple of days ago. After my airbag error light, my rear barn door now intermittently requiring two fob presses to open, and now my favourite DAB station (LBC if anyone is interested) seemingly having no signal 90% of the time, I’m beginning to wonder if modern vans are too complicated . I’ve just driven my usual route of about 5 miles with the DAB hardly having any signal in areas I’ve previously had no issues with. I pulled over halfway and pulled the piggyback wire that supplies power to the dash cam via a 5a fuse under the dashboard and signal seemed slightly better but still not what it should be (still dropping out often). I’m wondering wether having the ground wire still connected may cause problems even though the live has been disconnected? As usual thanks in advance guys.

Cheep circuitry in the PSU's. It's common amongst dash cams and DRL's etc. You could try locating the PSU somewhere differently or try a different PSU altogether. Which dashcam?

Hi Deaky. I’m not sure what a PSU is but I assume it’s the little transformer on the wiring? The camera is a BlueSkySea B1W. I did also plug in a cheap 12v USB charging socket into the cigarette lighter point on top of the dash, I’m wondering wether that could be affecting it since I still had intererence when I disconnected the live supply to the camera?

The USB charge socket could be a likely culprit
Hi Deaky. You were right it was the USB socket. Took the T6 for a test drive on identical route twice, once with USB plugged in and once without to confirm it. Will this likely be a common problem or should I roll the dice and try another type of USB charger? FYI the reason I chose this particular charger is that it barely protrudes from the socket which is what I need because the Brodit car kit I’ve got barely leaves any room to squeeze something into the top 12v socket.

what here said . . . @Deaky

12v cheap USB sockets are a night mare. if you set your radio to AM you will be able to hear the electrical noise they spew out.

stick with a brand like ANKER for example, I've been using there stuff for a few years now,

Just been looking at some Anker ones but can’t find any with a short enough length to squeeze under the Brodit clip but I’ll keep my eye out. Thanks for the reply as well
