Ok just had email back from VW who say 40K no time just mileage so that's what I will do.

You think it’s advisable to get the interval adjusted for when towing or shouldn’t that matter

It shouldn't matter. It might be changing gear more often than one that sits on the motorway all day, but probably still less than one that spends most of its life stop starting in towns.
