2017 TDI engine oil useage

Hi all,

Does the TDI engine use oil? I’ve not had mine long and it had a full service just before I picked it up from the dealership - just come back from a few day away and checked the oil and it was at the lower quarter of the dipstick. Must admit I didn’t check it before so don’t know where it was measuring on the dipper. I’ve done about 600 miles in it and topped up with half a litre this morning which has put the level to the top of the gauge on the dipper. There are no visual leaks and didn’t notice any smoke from the exhaust…

Which variant of engine do you have?

Only ever fill these motors to halfway between the MAX and MIN marks on the disptick.

How much power is your motor?

The oil level sensors can get upset if it's filled too nearmto max and start telling you off. Set the level half way and monitor weekly in case of fuel dilution.

I genuinely don’t know the power. It’s not a fast one so assume it’s lower PS. It’s a T32 but assume that won’t determine which engine . What’s fuel dilution?

Did you check the oil level before going away, or since you had the vehicle?

If not, then correct the level and monitor.. see what it's like after a thousand miles. It may not have been filled correctly (enough) when it was serviced.

OK, the 150 is a fairly safe bet for oil guzzling issues.

Follow Phils wise advice. Set the correct level and monitor.

I did check when I got the van but other than noting that the level looked okay it didn’t register if it was half way or all the way up the guage. Topped up and will monitor. May well pop in to the dealer next week to point it out👍

Ah, or course - hes got a 6. My bad.

Even so, on any engine its not good practice to tun at the top of the stick.
Until you develop an oil leak and wish you had.
I run my T6 CFCA to the top of the hatch then I have a fixed datum to note any deviations.
Ironically my supposed oil burning time bomb is rock solid, no oil added or drained between oil changes.
