1st Fault

So, after 45k miles I had my first fault on the van today.
Engine management light came on, no loss of power. Drove it home, and called Vw assist, and they sent the AA out.
AA said it was an EGR fault. Sprayed some cleaner down the air intake, and thats it, fault cleared.
Im guessing this is likely to re-occur ?

Unfortunately, if it is EGR related I would say it is more than a fair bet that it’ll return. Seems as though there are still a few issues going round with the E6 engine.

Seems low miles for that fault.
The van often spends 6+ hours doing good speeds down the motorway, so gets good regular blasts
They do seem to have a lot of issues, but up until today, I thought I had got lucky.

Did you take a note of the fault codes?

Or have carista to read your own codes?

Im Gonna assume Mr AA just reset the codes and sprayed a bit of carb cleaner about.

Not really. I did have a quick look, while holding the revs up.
I think 3 faults, erg, something else, reading inaccurate or something like that.
Yes Mr as was just a bit of cleaner, fault cleared, c u later.

If you don't already do....might be worth a blast with few tanks of the good stuff next time you fill up to clear the soot out of the cooler.

Mr AA, cleared fault with some cleaner. Now the lights back.
As expected really
Oooooh, the warning light is back on. gotcha.

i thought you ment the van had been into the dealer for a fix.

So, my return call never happened yesterday.
Chased them today, only to be told, they won`t even look at it until 29th Jan, and that was after I pushed them. They said mid Feb to start,
Is that standard ? Pretty useless I think

If you want a quicker appointment you have to call out vw assist as dealers have to deal with their referrals within 48 hours..

I did say that to the guy, but he said if I did that they would only diagnose the fault, and not repair it.
Not helpful at all.

The EGR needs To be removed to be cleaned properly, or replaced.

Book it in for the 29th, claim the loan hire van. Let them fix it.

EGR is not a critical issue (more emissions control) and you will be fine to keep driving it untill then.

Maybe in the meantime call VW Assist again and get them out give it another blast of the good stuff.

1AD91125-3E10-473C-ABAD-9EFE4772FC01.jpeg I had a similar sort of problem with my MY18 204DSG. The engine management light came on when I started the van up one morning. A call to VW Assist led to an AA patrol visiting and the following fault codes being picked up.

The van went straight into the dealers and they did an EGR flush and replaced an EGR pipe. No further faults in the next 5k miles.
