18" Dakar wheels

Hi all

Called into a VW dealer in Edinburgh today for some floor mats for van and they had some lovely wheels in the reception area. 18" Daker £1,400.00 with tyres. Spoke to parts guy who was very informative as was asking questions about suspension that I know nothing about. He said about a lowering spring set that reduces about 30mm, so got me thinking that maybe some wheels like this with a lowering job and the van would look different again. Spring price £465.40 fitted

Thanks in adavnce

What's your actual question?

:p that would help, is the wheel set good value along with spring lowering and didn't ask the question but what is Bilstein lowering, see its way more expensive but what are the pluses if any to a Bilstein fit

Wheels in general from a main dealer are going to be expensive, but they do tend to use good quality alloys and branded tyres, so the price is what you'd expect from VW.
As for the springs, again you're paying dealer prices to fit, and if you are looking to save money, you can buy springs off the internet and have a local garage fit them for a little cheaper, but again, it's about what you'd expect from a main dealer, and you'd obviously get the backup with warranty etc.

As for Bilstein, i'm assuming you're referring to B14's. These are fully adjustable full springs and shocks enabling you to get a lot lower than 30mm with a much better ride and handling. There's loads of info on here about them.

So depends on what you are looking to achieve with your T6 in the looks dept I guess.

They look awful, there are loads of better wheels for that money

I have to agree with Rich though, you need to look at what wheels size your after and how low you want to go, there is mountains of information here and photos to get the look your after, I would 100% go for the B14s

Thanks Tourershine

Like you say guess you would get no quibble warranty from VW but at a cost. When you say adjustable springs would I be right in saying that would be on a ramp, manual adjust and set up. The van I have is T32 and would not be carrying much weight, occasional mx bike if I remove seats. so would a Bilstein give an overall smoother and plusher ride or the opposite.

Thanks for heads up will review a few threads for more info

Dakar wheels are not weight rated for a T32 .

welcome to the frustrating world of t32 wheel and tyre load rating....

Thought buying was a pain in the rear with all the choices to decide, looks like modifying and adding goodies is just as bad a task :D

If you'd of happily paid £1400 for some from VW, your budget is pretty healthy.
Have you considered the Sportline wheels? There's several variations and sold through the forum shop here Alloys & Tyres

I'm sure yours is White from memory, and they look awesome with Black Sportlines and a subtle 30-50mm lowering.
