What Leisure battery/electrical setup do I need?

I need ideas for a leisure battery to fit under passenger seat and a split charge relay please! I can't work out exactly what I need, and the more I read, the more confused I'm becoming! :D I have put this off for 3.5 years, but want to fit a cupboard and fridge so need power in the van! It's...

Mini fridge and 50,000 mAh lithium battery pack

Very rarely, Forum do's are all off grid events for us, the solar keeps our battery topped up at those. I was grateful of a hookup in Skye last year which powered our shed/cooking tent and our portable 'non battery' coolbox, the weather was dreadful! Most of my alloted 29 days holiday a year is...

    Hot water heater

What did you go for? I’m just starting my T6 conversion. I’ve had a T4 for a few years with cold water but would love hot water. We spend 99% of our time off grid.

It’s relatively rare to find genuinely local Home Assistant integrations for commercial hardware. Most go through the providers cloud API so will work until offgrid, or they go bust or they lock it down or put it behind a subscription or whatever.

    Solar sense check

If you can fit/afford them, then go for it. Nobody ever complained about having too much battery or solar. Bear in mind that you will never see 400W from the panels. On an average UK summer say, you might get 300W if you're lucky. I'd say you'll average closer to 200W.

    How smart is your van?

I like tech and shiny things. I've recently upgraded and rewired my van and in doing so have introduced some tech bits to allow to remote monitoring and control. Interested in what others have in place. Currently I have. Renogy shunt 300 and One core system for battery, solar and overall...

Upgraded Lithium leisure battery - update

I think that's the point I was trying to make, if you only need to go off grid for a couple of days, with reasonable use you would be fine without solar, but fitting a LiFePo4 battery instead. I was lucky that our DC to DC charger supported LiFePo4 (it had a profile for it) so we only had to...

    Lithium battery advice

Depends... On how long you want to spend 'off grid' with no charging. A normal 50l fridge will use 1-1.5Ah per hour, so around 30Ah in a day. So realistically you might get 2-3 days from a 100Ah battery with no additional charging.

Solar Sheds & Other Non-t6 Solar Projects - How We Done It -

That's great, thanks @Grim Reaper. We have five in our house, so anything that requires thought about what can be switched on with what isn't going to happen! With that in mind, I think we'd end up with the 8kW inverter - not because we'd need the 8kW exactly, but because it's the first one...

Solar Sheds & Other Non-t6 Solar Projects - How We Done It -

Self installed system, 12 470W Aiko Solar panels on Fastensol mounts split into three strings of 4 panels. These feed into three Victron Smart Solar MPPT 250/60 charge controllers, which charge a GobelPower 314Ah/16kWh battery. A Victron Multiplus II 48/5000 supplies pretty much the whole house...

    Understanding portable solar panels

Hi, I’m trying to understand if this portable solar panel is as simple as connecting it together as shown by the diagram, which then can run my 12v fridge and lights off grid? So basically, I connect the converter to the panel. Then the converter directly to the leisure battery via the...

    Thinking about buying.

Yeah gas is fine when used properly, either with a fixed install or with small canisters and a portable hob. Induction is definitely worth looking into but if you want to be off grid for more than a day or 2 as well as regularly using induction, you need a suitably beefy leisure battery set up...

    Basic Off Gridding

We have a Starlink that we connect to an EcoFlow river 2. Had reason to try it to the max on an off grid work day… the EcoFlow ran the Starlink for 5 ½ hours straight (back to back Teams meetings using full video) before I had to plug the Starlink into our Cali leisure battery instead. My...

    Van Power & Battery Calculator

Nice tool. I’ll add, ChatGPT does a great job of this. Tell it as much as you like about your setup and ask it what you want to now. It’s incredible. Had it predict time off grid for me, based on month of year (eg daylight hours), location (weather), battery capacity, solar panel, fridge, etc.

    Do i need solar?

Evening All, Im looking for some info really, as to if I need solar or not? I recently fitted new kitchen and electrics in the van. I kept the original leisure battery (120ah) and replaced all chargers for victron ones (victron xs 50a dc dc and victron ip65 charger for when on EHU) . Only 12v...

    Opinions and discussions.....

The off-grid bit is not quite such an interest to us - but you are right the hob may be leccy-hungry. I envisage at most a night or two away from 'proper shower and toilets' so just need to recharge the battery when driving/parked up. And I want to tour Scotland - plenty of sunshine up...

    What Have You Bought Today?

If you really want to make to great add the DC-DC Battery Charger. Simple to fit and will charge it whilst on the move quickly. Very pleased with ours. Link: BLUETTI Charger 1 | 560W Alternator Charger

    What Have You Bought Today?

We did 4 weeks in France this year, in that heat, off grid despite having an EHU at each site, unfortunately it seemed all the places we stopped at catered mainly for wobble boxes and bloaty motor homes whose owners plod on with a simple lead acid battery and no solar so need the EHU. Did have...

Lithium LifePo4 12v Batteries - Time For An Upgrade?

There’s a lot to comment on here. My view, in short… - Go lithium. Go as big as you can reasonably fit and afford. Get one with a BMS. One of the best upgrades I ever did. - Do some maths, and maybe even use AI to help. ChatGPT gave me some really useful insights. I provided: - what...

    Portable battery packs

Prob a bit late but we went for the Bluetti AC180 which along with the LifePo leisure battery I reckon will suit our needs for a couple of nights off grid. Only went for the Bluetti because of cost - it’s back on offer for £549, down from £899 which is a fair bit cheaper than the other...
